Means Of Getting Into Lamu Island

There are several ways of getting into Lamu depending on your interest and budget. 540 fly from Nairobi JKIA to Lamu via Malindi every day.

Plane

You will be landing at Manda Airport where our Guide will be waiting to escort you to your hotel which is either Lamu town, Shela village or Manda beach. Kenya Airways stopped its services to Lamu end of November 2008.

Bus

Traveling by bus is cheaper but long. About 125km from MLD to Lamu is temporary road and sometimes it takes longer than expected especially during the rain season. Tawakal mini bus and Tahmeed have the best services.

Note: If you want to use your own drive please consider a 4WD for your comfort. Parking at Mokowe Jetty can be organized @ Ksh 400/- a day.

Boat

The most expensive means would be getting to Lamu by boat. There is no regular boat going to Lamu. You have to hire one from Malindi or Mombasa and the price is negotiable but aim for over ksh 30,000/-.
